Where to hang a nursery sign
Most parents centre the sign on the wall above the cot, leaving a hand's width or more between the top of the cot and the bottom of the sign so it frames the cot rather than crowding it. Keep it well out of reach once your baby can pull themselves up to standing. Above a chest of drawers, a changing unit or a reading chair works beautifully too.
Which size for a nursery?
These are good starting points. Try the name in our designer to see its real size.
| Where it's going | Size to try |
|---|---|
| Above a cot | 40 to 60 cm |
| Above a single bed | 50 to 70 cm |
| Over a chest of drawers or changing unit | 30 to 50 cm |
| On a shelf or windowsill | 10 to 30 cm |
For girls and boys
Every font, size and wood is available for any name. On Etsy we list the same sign twice, once styled for a girl's nursery and once for a boy's, so you'll find it whichever you're looking for.
A gift for a new arrival
A name sign makes a thoughtful baby shower, new baby or christening gift. If it's a surprise, check the spelling with the family first: we cut the name exactly as you type it. Ask us on Etsy and we'll send you a free digital mock-up before you order.
Sizes
Each size sets the most your name can measure: a maximum width and a maximum height. We scale the name up until it reaches one of them, so long names fill the width and short names reach the full height, and no name is ever stretched or squashed.
That means a very short name such as El comes out narrower than the size you choose. The designer shows the exact measurements of any name.

Choose your finish
Wood veneer signs are 4 mm thick: a real wood veneer on an MDF core, so the grain on yours is one of a kind. Unpainted MDF signs are 3 mm thick and ready for you to paint.
- English Oak Golden, with a clear grain.
- Canadian Maple Pale and creamy, with a soft grain.
- European Cherry A warm, rosy brown.
- American Walnut A rich chocolate brown with darker grain.
- Unpainted MDF Smooth and even, ready for you to paint.
Choose your font
Swirly is a flowing, joined-up script with elegant loops. Scribble is looser and more playful, with the bounce of real handwriting.
Personalising
Type the name exactly as you'd like it cut. We make the first letter a capital and the rest lowercase, unless you tell us otherwise. Want to see it first? Ask us on Etsy for a free digital mock-up.
Hanging
Every sign comes with strong 3M double-sided tape, so there's no drilling. Stick it to a smooth, clean, dry surface and press firmly.
Delivery
We make each sign in 1 to 3 days. Free standard UK delivery then usually takes 2 to 4 working days, or upgrade to next-day delivery at checkout. Delivery and returns
