Measure the front of the box
Measure the flat area across the front of the box and choose a size a few centimetres narrower, so the name has a little breathing space at each end. Most toy boxes and blanket boxes suit a 20, 30 or 40 cm sign.
Painting your sign
Choose unpainted MDF if you'd like to paint the sign to match the playroom. For anything in a child's room, look for paint labelled as meeting EN 71-3, the toy safety standard, and let it dry completely before you fix the sign in place.
Fixing it to the box
The 3M tape that comes with your sign grips best on smooth, flat surfaces such as painted wood or laminate. It won't hold on wicker, fabric or rough timber.
Sizes
Each size sets the most your name can measure: a maximum width and a maximum height. We scale the name up until it reaches one of them, so long names fill the width and short names reach the full height, and no name is ever stretched or squashed.
That means a very short name such as El comes out narrower than the size you choose. The designer shows the exact measurements of any name.

Choose your finish
Wood veneer signs are 4 mm thick: a real wood veneer on an MDF core, so the grain on yours is one of a kind. Unpainted MDF signs are 3 mm thick and ready for you to paint.

Swirly is a flowing, joined-up script with elegant loops. Scribble is looser and more playful, with the bounce of real handwriting.
Personalising

Hanging
Every sign comes with strong 3M double-sided tape, so there's no drilling. Stick it to a smooth, clean, dry surface and press firmly.
